Zainab Salbi is a best-selling author and TV host who has dedicated her life to serving the cause of women and marginalised voices. She founded the Women for Women International humanitarian organisation in 1993 to support female survivors of war and ran it as CEO until stepping down in 2011. In 2015 she launched her own talk show dedicated to addressing and inspiring women in the Arab world and has since gone on to become editor at large at Women in the World in association with The New York Times. Her books include Between Two Worlds: Escape from Tyranny: Growing Up in the Shadow of Saddam, which documents her family’s close ties to the former Iraqi dictator when she was growing up.
In an interview with The National last year she described the contradictory expectations placed on Arab women by society and expressed hope for post-Daesh Iraq.
