LinkedIn’s UAE members ‘most connected’ in the world

UAE users of the platform have a reported average of 211 connections per individual

Professional networking site LinkedIn’s UAE members rank as the “most connected” in the world, it revealed on TUesday.

UAE users of the platform have a reported average of 211 connections per individual. The UAE was followed by the Netherlands with 188 average connections, Singapore with 152 average connections, the UK with 144 connections per individual on average and Denmark with 143 connections.

LinkedIn, which now has 500 million members across 200 countries, also confirmed that its user-base reached 22 million members in the MENA region.

“It is great to see the UAE ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to recognising the value of a strong online professional network,” said Ali Matar, head of LinkedIn Talent Solutions, Emerging Markets, Middle East and North Africa.

“A large majority of the UAE’s workforce has come from abroad – LinkedIn makes it easy for professionals seeking to connect with each other around the world, and to keep up to date with relevant companies and industry topics, wherever the market.

“We encourage all members to connect with relevant professionals to increase their industry networks,” he added.

LinkedIn also revealed that the top five most connected places on its network were London (307 average connections), Amsterdam area (288 connections), San Francisco Bay area (241 connections), Greater Jakarta area (225 connections), Milan area (221 connections).

The top five most connected industries were found to be: Staffing and recruitment, venture capital and private equity, human resources, management consulting, and online media.

In terms of job functions, human resources was found to be most connected followed by product management, business development, marketing, and consulting.

LinkedIn, which has three million members in the UAE, opened its first MENA office in Dubai in 2012, serving as its regional headquarters.

Earlier this year, the platform released its list of the most viewed profiles in the UAE for 2016.

Compiled for the first time in the UAE, the list contained 45 profiles including CEOs from the public and private sector and executives from industries such as marketing and advertising, human resources, technology and lifestyle.
