Here, she reflects on her journey from a graduate trainee to a key industry leader, her role in promoting safety and environmental stewardship, and her commitment to mentoring the next generation of Emirati women in the workplace. Can you share your career journey with us? My journey with DP World began in 2013 when I joined as a fresh graduate trainee. Over the past decade, I’ve navigated through various roles that have been both challenging and rewarding. I started in the HSE department, focusing on the environmental aspects of our operations, which laid a strong foundation for my understanding of sustainable business practices. As I transitioned into the general cargo sector, my expertise expanded to include a broader health and safety remit, addressing the complexities of Ro-Ro, bulk, and breakbulk operations. My path then led me to a key role in the Parks & Zones division, where I honed my leadership skills before assuming my current position. Today, I lead a team of 60 professionals. Our top priority is to ensure that safety and environmental stewardship remain at the forefront of DP World’s operations. I’ve been fortunate to grow professionally and contribute to impactful projects while navigating an ever-evolving work environment. I take pride in my role, where our top priority is safeguarding our employees and the environment. How do you believe you are making a difference in your role? In my role, I am deeply committed to safeguarding our people and the environment, as well as implementing programmes that drive continuous improvement. Our priority is on embedding a culture of safety where every employee is empowered to take decisive action against unsafe practices. This commitment is an ongoing journey, not a final destination. How do you see yourself as an example for others to follow, especially for Emirati women? I am committed to leading by example, demonstrating the capabilities of Emirati women to excel in diverse industries and emphasising their integral role in shaping the future of these sectors. Resilience, dedication, and adaptability are qualities that I emphasise in my work, and I aim to showcase the significant value that women can bring to their teams. My journey is a testament to the idea that with determination and the right opportunities, Emirati women can break barriers and make impactful contributions across various domains. How are you promoting DP World’s initiatives and mentoring other Emirati women within the organisation? My role provides a unique platform to influence and inspire at multiple levels within the organisation. I actively engage with new joiners through orientation and mentoring programs, emphasising the importance of aligning with DP World’s vision of sustainability and innovation. Additionally, I represent DP World at key industry events, such as Breakbulk Middle East, advocating for greater involvement of women in our industry. These platforms are crucial for sharing insights, fostering collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of Emirati leaders, ensuring that our initiatives are not just implemented but are also driving meaningful change.
