Home GCC Kuwait Kuwait’s Emir travels to Europe after medical check-ups in the US Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah travelled to the US on March 4 by Staff writer March 15, 2021 Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has travelled to Europe from the US on a private visit, state news agency KUNA reported on Sunday. Sheikh Nawaf had travelled to the US on March 4 and underwent “successful medical examinations” in the country, the report stated. It did not confirm how long he planned to be in Europe. Sheikh Nawaf, 83, took over as the Emir of Kuwait in September last year succeeding his half brother, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died at the age of 91. Serving as the Crown Prince since 2006, Sheikh Nawaf was first appointed to the cabinet in 1978 as interior minister, and thereafter held the defense and social affairs portfolios. He also served as deputy chief of the national guard.
