Kuwait’s defence ministry said on Wednesday it was seeking up to $300m in compensation over a 2017 incident involving a Jazeera Airways aircraft and a military balloon.

A Jazeera aircraft made contact with a radar-equipped balloon in August 2017, state news agency KUNA reported at the time.

The ministry said on Wednesday in a statement it had filed a lawsuit in February over the matter. It did not state who it was seeking compensation from.

Jazeera later said it had not received any legal claims for compensation and an investigation into the incident did not assign liability to the airline.

There is no financial impact to the airline, Jazeera said in a statement.
