Kuwait signs contracts worth KD238m to modernise power, water distillation plants

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity has signed two contracts worth a combined total of approximately KD238m for the maintenance and modernisation of the country’s power and water distillation plants.

The new agreements, announced on Saturday, December 28, are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and sustain the national power system, the Kuwait News Agency reported.

The ministry confirmed that the necessary regulatory approvals for the contracts have been obtained from relevant state authorities.

Kuwait’s to modernise and maintain key units

The first contract focuses on providing high-precision and efficient engineering services for gas and steam turbine units related to power generation, while the second contract aims to develop and modernise steam boilers for electricity generation and water distillation, along with their auxiliary systems at the Doha West Power Plant.

The ministry further explained that the second contract also seeks to extend the lifespan of the boilers by approximately 20 years and enhance their efficiency to reduce operating costs and lower carbon emissions.

These upgrades are seen as a crucial step in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of Kuwait’s infrastructure, which is essential to meeting the growing demand for electricity and water.

The contracts aim to improve operational performance and extend the lifespan of the existing facilities.
