Kuwait has announced the holiday date to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.

According to the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the country’s Council of Ministers confirmed the holiday for those working in the public sector.

Kuwait’s long weekend

The Cabinet declared September 28 as a holiday for those serving in the public sector.

This sets up a three-day weekend for those working in the public sector as the holiday falls on a Thursday. For those who have a five-day work week, the weekends are marked on a Friday and Saturday which sets up a three-day long weekend at the end of this month.

As per tradition, Muslims observe the 12th day of the Islamic calendar month of Rabi Al Awwal as Milad un Nabi (Mawlid) the day of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

UAE: 3-day long weekend

As is customary, the official declaration of the public holiday is contingent upon the announcement from UAE government officials. Typically, this announcement occurs about a week before the holiday itself.

However, as per the holiday schedule released by the UAE government media office at the start of the year, September 29 is most likely to be a holiday for public and private sector employees in the UAE to commemorate Prophet Mohammed’s birthday.

This would then bring in a long-weekend for those working in the public and private sector as the UAE follows a Monday to Friday work week.
