Kuwait announces holiday dates for Islamic New Year

The government of Kuwait has declared a two-day holiday to mark the Hijri New Year

Kuwait has announced a two-day holiday on occassion of the Hijri New Year 1445. The council of ministers have announced that July 19 will be considered a holiday to mark the Islamic New Year while July 20 will be a day of rest.

All work in ministries, institutions, agencies, and government entities will be suspended for two days. The Centre for Government Communication published the notification regarding the upcoming holiday.

The announcement in Kuwait follows a similar notification by the government in Oman. Oman has officially declared Thursday, July 20, as a holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year.

The Hijri New Year signifies the start of a new lunar year for Muslims around the world. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar also known as the Hijri calendar. Muharram 2023 will mark the start of the New Islamic Year 1445.
