IPL 2020: Dubai’s DP World signs long-term sponsorship agreement with Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Dubai-government owned port operator, DP World, has signed a long-term sponsorship agreement with Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to become its global logistics partner.

The IPL 2020 cricket tournament is set to commence from September 19, with the tournament staged in the UAE instead of India and matches scheduled to be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

By way of the agreement between DP World and RCB, the two entities will collaborate on ensuring movement and delivery of training gear as well as match kits from India to Dubai before the 53-day tournament begins.

“We are delighted to partner with DP World. As the global leader in logistics, DP World brings in a lot of experience and value to support us with our logistics requirements, as we prepare to play the tournament in the UAE later this week,” said Sanjeev Churiwala, chairman of RCB.

Rizwan Soomar, CEO and MD, subcontinent, DP World, added: “Given the added logistics complexities that are unique to this year’s tournament, we at DP World have been able to leverage our global logistics experience to support RCB.”

The Dubai-based global port operator reportedly handles a quarter of the India’s total container trade volumes. Its network of logistics assets in India included express and third-party logistics services, rail services, inland rail terminals, cold chain and feeder services.

With regards to its international sporting associations, DP World has partnered with other international sporting events and teams too. It is the global partner of the European Tour and title sponsor of the DP World Tour Championship. Besides, it has also teamed with Renault as title partner and official logistics partner of the Renault DP World F1 team.
