The interim budget – a short-term financial plan – is presented to the Parliament to meet the government’s essential expenditure for the first four months of the financial year. The finance minister, in her speech to Parliament, said the government would focus on four major groups in the coming months – poor, women, youth and the farmers. She announced that government would maintain the current Income Tax slabs and would allow deductions under 80C under the new tax regime.
