Fresh quakes hit Turkey, two weeks after disaster

Fresh quakes jolted southern Turkey on Monday, just two weeks after the deadly twin tremors killed thousands.

A 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude earthquakes hit Turkey’s southeastern Hatay province, the country’s disaster management agency said.

As many as 1,214 people injured in the twin earthquakes

• 32 aftershocks after the earthquake

• Dredging work is being carried out in Samandag district

• People injured in the earthquake are being transferred to Adana

Hatay was one of the 10 provinces hit by twin deadly quakes on February 6 that killed over 41,000 people in Turkey and thousands more in neighbouring Syria.

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres had stated that the devastating earthquakes that decimated parts of Turkey and Syria are “one of the biggest natural disasters in our times.”
