The Sharjah City Municipality has announced free parking at all public areas within the emirate on Sunday, August 23, on account of Hijri New Year 2020.
However, it added that the decision excludes paid parking in the areas subject to paid parking rules on weekends and public holidays.
The areas where paid parking will still be applicable include:
Al Hisn Street – Al Shuwaiheen and Al Shoyoukh
Corniche Street both sides – Al Shuwaiheen
Qays Ibn Abi Sa’sa’ah Street (bird market) – Al Jubail
Central souq parking spaces – Al Majaz 1
Corniche Street (Khalid Lagoon side) – Al Majaz 1, Al Majaz 2, Al Majaz 3
University City Road – Muwaileh Commercial Area
In a separate announcement made last week, officials announced that all public and private sector employees in the country will receive a paid holiday on August 23.

All offices are expected to resume operations on Monday, August 24.

Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Center has said that surface parking will be free on Sunday, August 23, until 7:59am on Monday, August 24.
It urged motorists to park only in designated areas and not to obstruct the movement of other vehicles.
It also added that people should not park their vehicles in parking lots designated for residents from 9pm-8am.
The transport centre said that its customer happiness centers will not operate on Sunday.
With regard to public bus services and timings during the Hijri New Year holiday on Sunday, the center said that bus services in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra will be according to the schedule for Fridays.
Also, public maritime transport services between Jebel Dhanna marina and Dalma Island, and between Saadiyat and Aliyah islands, will continue as per the current schedule on Sunday too.
