An Etihad Airways flight travelling from Cairo to Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning was diverted to Dubai due to security reasons, the airline has said.

Flight EY650, an Airbus A321 aircraft carrying 128 passengers and seven crew from Cairo to Abu Dhabi, was diverted to Al Minhad airbase.

“All passengers have now been transferred by coach with their luggage to Abu Dhabi airport,” a statement said.

“Passengers who missed connecting flights are being rebooked on new services enabling them to continue their journey as quickly as possible.

“The Airbus A321 aircraft was searched by security officials, but nothing of a suspicious nature was found,” it added.

The aircraft has now returned to Abu Dhabi.

“Etihad Airways will never compromise the safety and security of its aircraft,” the airline added.

Last Sunday, An Air Arabia airliner flying from Kuwait to Sharjah was also diverted to the Al Minhad airbase after a passenger warned that the plane was about to explode. The carrier later confirmed that it was a false alarm.
