Emirati students banned from enrolling in 47 private schools in the UAE
The 47 schools are located in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah
Emirati students have been banned from enrolling in 47 private school in the northern emirates which have been rated weak or very weak by the UAE’s Ministry of Education (MoE).
The MoE issued a directive in this regard and urged parents of Emirati students to look at alternative schools for the academic year 2018/2019.
The 47 schools are located in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah.
Sharjah’s Ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi addressed the issue during a telephone call on the local Sharjah Radio stating that measures are being taken to improve the schools that have ranked poorly.
He said the a new local authority had been created with international educational experts to supervise all the private schools in the emirate.
Sheikh Sultan said the new body, reporting directly to the government, will improve standards at poorly performing private schools in Sharjah. Each school will also receive a report with suggestions and recommendations.
“I would like to assure the school owners and parents in Sharjah that we will take good care of your children,” he said.
