Home Transport Aviation Emirates to unveil revamped business class seats for its Boeing 777 aircraft The design and shape of the new seat is inspired by the interior of a sports car by Aarti Nagraj March 6, 2016 Dubai airline Emirates announced plans to unveil a new business class seat for its Boeing 777 aircraft at the upcoming travel trade show ITB Berlin. The new seat will make its commercial debut on Emirates’ 170th Boeing 777 aircraft, a 300ER version which the airline expects to receive in November 2016, a statement said. The seat’s design and shape was inspired by the interior of a modern sports car, with the diamond stitch pattern of a light grey full leather cover and an ergonomically designed headrest. It has a pitch of 72 inches and can be electrically moved into a fully flat sleeping position at 180 degrees. Additional amenities include a mini-bar, a 23-inch personal TV screen, a touchscreen controller for the seat and Emirates’ ice inflight entertainment system. Customers will also have a USB port to charge their devices, a HDMI port to stream content from their personal devices directly onto the screen and improved lighting options for reading and relaxing. Emirates also redesigned the privacy panel between seats, the literature pocket, foot rest, shoe stowage area and expanded the personal meal table, it said. The seat retains Emirates’ colour tones of dark and light grey. The carrier will also maintain its current seat layout of 2-3-2 across its Boeing 777 business class cabins, as well the total number of seats per aircraft at 42. All newly delivered Boeing 777s after the arrival of the first aircraft in November will have these new seats on-board. The seats are manufactured by the United States-based B/E Aerospace at their facilities in Ireland and North Carolina in the US. Emirates airline president Tim Clark said: “What this new seat does is to take that design and comfort to the next level. We gave the seat a fresh and modern look, retained all the existing features that our customers love and added a few more, while improving the seating and sleeping comfort. “We are always working towards the next big leap, but at the same time we continually look at the little ways we can enhance what we already offer. We believe this new business class seat further strengthens the experience and value proposition for our premium customers.” Emirates is the world’s largest operator of Boeing 777s with 155 in its fleet at present and a further 188 on order. 0 Comments
