Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline, has been knighted in the UK’s New Year Honours list 2014.

The decoration is one of the highest accolades a British person or a citizen of the British Commonwealth can receive. Should he choose, he can now be referred to as Sir Tim.

Clark was recognised for his “services to British prosperity and to the aviation industry” in the diplomatic and overseas list.

Clark joined the Dubai carrier in 1985 before becoming president in 2003. He has helped steer the airline into becoming one the biggest carriers in the world, with huge global branding.

Michael Tomalin, the retired CEO of National Bank of Abu Dhabi was also recognised on the Honours list, being named a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) for “services to UK-UAE business cooperation and to the British community in Abu Dhabi”.
