The UAE’s national carrier Emirates is set to expand its services to the Japanese city of Osaka with the introduction of an Airbus A380 aircraft starting from June 1, 2024.

In a statement, Emirates announced that the A380 aircraft to be deployed to Osaka will be retrofitted with Emirates’ latest product, Premium Economy, marking it as the second Japanese gateway to operate with the newly upgraded aircraft.

This upgraded service aims to provide increased seat capacity on flights to and from Japan’s second-largest city, along with introducing the highly sought-after Premium Economy Class for customers.

Additionally, passengers can expect refreshed interiors across First, Business, and Economy Class cabins, said Emirates.

Replacing the current Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the EK316/EK317 service to and from Osaka’s Kansai International Airport (KIX), Emirates’ four-class A380 will offer 910 additional weekly seats between Dubai and Osaka, providing more opportunities for travelers to connect to popular destinations including Milan, Madrid, Brazil, Paris, and London.

Emirates celebrated the 20th anniversary of its services between Dubai and Osaka last year, having carried more than 220,000 passengers on over 360 flights between the two gateways in 2023.

The four-class A380 deployed to Osaka will feature 14 First Class suites, 76 lie-flat seats in Business Class, 56 seats in Premium Economy Class, and 338 ergonomically designed seats in Economy Class.

The Premium Economy cabin, located at the front of the main deck, offers a spacious layout with a 2-4-2 configuration, providing ample space for working and relaxation. In addition, passengers can enjoy Emirates’ extensive in-flight entertainment options and signature hospitality.

Emirates’ A380 operations to Kansai International Airport (KIX) align with Japan’s anticipation of increased tourism, particularly in the Kansai region, which includes Osaka and Kyoto. This expansion comes amid a packed schedule of events, including the Osaka-Kansai Expo planned for 2025.

The airline said its commitment to Japanese travelers is further demonstrated through services such as the resumption of its Chauffeur-drive service in Tokyo Haneda for First and Business Class customers, as well as a complimentary shuttle bus service for Economy class customers from Tokyo Haneda airport to major train stations.

Emirates, known for its extensive global network, serves over 140 cities on six continents through its efficient hub in Dubai.

The airline operates the world’s largest fleet of modern wide-body Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, offering passengers the latest comforts and amenities in the sky.
