Eid Al Fitr 2016: UAE private sector holidays announced

The first and second days of the month of Shawwal will be paid holidays for private sector workers

Private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates will get the first and second days of the month of Shawwal as holidays to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, it was announced on Tuesday.

The announcement was made by the UAE’s Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Saqr Ghobash.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

The first day of Eid this year is expected to fall on Wednesday, July 6, according to an astronomer.

Depending on the sighting of the new moon, private sector workers in the UAE could get a four-day weekend from July 6 to July 9.

Earlier this week, it was announced that public sector employees will be off from Sunday, July 3 to Saturday, July 9 for Eid.

They will resume work from Sunday, July 10.
