UAE-based employees from both sectors are likely to get the next holiday during Eid Al Adha, observed after Arafat Day, in June. Arafat Day holds profound significance in Islam, marking the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. It falls approximately 70 days after Eid Al Fitr, on Dhu Al-Hijjah 9 (as per the Islamic calendar). This corresponds to Saturday, June 15 this year. Eid Al Adha 2024: Expected dates Following Arafat Day, the UAE will embark on the festivities of Eid Al Adha, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and sacrifice. The festive period, slated to start from Dhu Al-Hijjah 10 to 12 (June 16-18 this year), symbolises the spirit of harmony, faith and time with the family. However, according to reports, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of Emirates Astronomy Society, has predicted that Arafat Day will start on Sunday, June 16, with the next day marking the start of Eid Al Adha. As with Eid Al Fitr, the days will be confirmed according to the relevant Moon sightings closer to the time. Other holidays in 2024 Welcoming the dawn of a new lunar Hijri year, the UAE will observe Hijri New Year on July 7, 2024 (Muharram 1). Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday: September 15, Sunday (Rabi’ Al-Awwal 12) In a tribute to the nation’s heroes and their sacrifices, Commemoration Day, formerly known as Martyrs’ Day, is solemnly observed on December 1. UAE National Day, celebrated on December 2 and 3 follows next.
