Earthquake strikes west of Jeddah in Saudi

The quake measured 3 on the Richter scale

An earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale struck west of Jeddah city in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the Saudi Geological Society has said.

The seismic monitoring stations of the National Center for Seismology and Volcanology recorded the tremor occurring on the Red Sea Opening Axis, at a distance of 91 kilometres west of Jeddah city.

However, the official spokesman of the Saudi Geological Society, Tariq Aba Al-Khalil, stressed that the quake was not felt in any of the coastal cities near the earthquake because of its weakness, reported the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

He also reassured citizens and residents that the seismic situation is stable in the region.
