Dubai’s Drake & Scull Wins Dhs168m MEP Contracts In Oman

The company has won four turnkey deals in Oman, bringing the value of its total project wins in 2014 to Dhs4.6 billion.

Dubai-based contractor Drake and Scull has signed four mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracts worth Dhs168 million in Oman, the company said in a statement.

With the latest deals, the company has secured project awards worth Dhs4.6 billion this year, the statement added.

As per the terms of the deal, Drake and Scull Engineering Oman (DSE Oman) will provide MEP services for a government facility in Al Ghubrah in Muscat. The company has already commenced work on the site, which is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

In another deal, DSE Oman will undertake complete MEP works for a government complex in Nizwa. The project, which spans an area of 36,452 square metres, consists of residential and service facilities, and is set to be completed by 2016.

The company has also won a contract to provide MEP services for a leisure and tourism project, the statement said.

In addition, DSE Oman will also be upgrading some core MEP services at one of the major oil refineries in the Sultanate. No further details were disclosed about this deal.

“These contracts are in line with our strategic growth plans for Oman which is currently experiencing a robust projects market,” said Ahmad Al Naser, managing director of DSE.

“DSE Oman wants to be a significant player in shaping Oman’s modern urban landscape and leverage its historical association with Oman to secure more projects in the infrastructure and construction sectors.

“Moreover, we are keen to demonstrate our engineering capabilities in rail and in association with Drake & Rail, hope to play a decisive role in the development of Oman’s rail sector.”

DSE has previously worked on several projects in Oman, including the Muscat Royal Orchestra, the National Museum of Oman, and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

Currently, the company is delivering MEP services on the New Muscat International Airport and the Duqm Hotel.

With the GCC’s construction sector on the rebound, Drake and Scull has also been inking new deals across the region.

The company recently won a Dhs110 million contract to build a district cooling plant in Qatar’s Lusail City.

Under the terms of the agreement, DSE Qatar will design and build a district cooling plant of 14,250 tonnes of refrigeration that will supply chilled water to the completed buildings in Lusail City.
