Dubai World Cup 2020 is postponed to next year

On Sunday, it was confirmed that the Dubai World Cup which was scheduled to be held on March 28, has now been postponed to next year.

On Thursday, the country’s federal sports authority suspended all sporting tournaments and competitions, resulting in speculation that the Dubai World Cup would eventually be called off as well.

A statement from the Dubai Media Office on Sunday read: “To safeguard the health of all participants, the higher organizing committee of the Dubai World Cup 2020 has decided to postpone the 25th edition of the global tournament to next year.

The Dubai World Cup with a total prize money of $35m is the richest race day in the world.

Previously, the organisers had said that they planned to hold the race without any spectators at the venue as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

There have been a number of high-profile events in Dubai including the Dubai International Boat Show, Arabian Travel Market and Art Dubai which have been rescheduled on account of the Covid-19 virus.

The UAE reported 13 new infected cases of the Covid-19 virus on Saturday. Taking the total number of those infected to 153.
