Dubai roads to close for five-day cycling tour

Around 870km of roads will be affected during the five-day event

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced a series of road closures throughout the city and wider UAE for annual cycling event the Dubai Tour.

The closures will affect 870km of roads in total from 11:10am to 3:30pm over a period of five days between Tuesday, February 6 and Saturday, February 10.

The 2018 event marks the fourth edition of the race.

“The role of the authority is to ensure the success of this great event, in cooperation and coordination with various departments and governmental and private bodies, including the Dubai Sports Council, the Dubai Police and the United Arab Emirates Cycling Federation, with the aim of securing road safety for participants and road users through the on-site operational team,” said executive director of traffic and roads Maitha Bin Oday.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, February 6 the first closures will affect 167km of roads as the first phase takes cyclists from Skydive Dubai to the Palm Jumeirah.

Affected roads include Skydive Dubai on King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Street, Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Road, the inner streets of Motor City, Al Qudra Road, Hamdan Street and the International Village, Jebel Ali Street for Lehab, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Jebel Ali Free Zone and the inner streets of Jebel Ali Port towards Sheikh Zayed Road, Qarn Al Sabkha Street, First, Hissa Street, Sheikh Zayed Road Services Street and Point A At the end of the Palm Jumeirah.

Drivers are asked to use Abdullah Omran Bin Tarim Street, Al Thaniah Street, Hessa Street, Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

Wednesday

Phase two on Wednesday, February 7 will affect 190km of roads including Skydive Dubai on King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Street. Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Street, the inner streets of Dubai Design District, Ras Al Khor Street, Al Aweer Street, Emirates Road, In the Emirate of Sharjah towards the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

Drivers are asked to use Abdullah Omran Bin Tarim Street, Hessa Street, Al Thaniah Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Manama Street and First Horse Road.

Thursday

On Thursday, February 8, the tour will span 1,905km and affect Skydive Dubai on King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Street, Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Road, Ras Al Khor Street, Dubai Eye Road, Hatta Street, Amman, and enter the Emirate of Sharjah towards Fujairah.

Drivers are asked to use Abdullah Omran Bin Tarim Street, Hessa Street, Tania Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Ras Al Khor Street, Dubai Eye Street and First Horse Street.

Friday

The fourth phase on Friday, February 9 will span 172km from Sky Dubai on King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Street to Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khail Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Aweer Road, Hatta Road, And then to the Emirate of Fujairah and then to the Hatta area.

Drivers are asked to use Abdullah Omran Bin Tarim Street, Hissa Street, Tania Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Manama Street and Al Khail Street.

Saturday

On Saturday, February 10 the tour will span 132km including Sky Dubai on King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Street, Umm Suqeim Street, Asayel Street, Al Waha Road, Al Khail Road I, Ras Al Khor Street, Nad Al Hamr Street, Al-Rabat Street, Tripoli Street, passing through Mushrif Park, Al-Khawaneej Street, Al-Madina Street, Tunis Street, Nahda Street, Damascus Street, Baghdad Street, Cairo Street Bani Yas Road through the Al Maktoum Bridge and then to Tariq Bin Ziyad Street, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, Al-Falah Street, Al-Khaleej Street, Al-Mina Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, the inner streets inside Port Rashid, Jumeirah Road, Al-Thania Street and Al Wasl Road, Safa Street before ending at City Walk.
