Home UAE Dubai Dubai ranks first in international tourist spending, reveals WTTC According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCC), Dubai earned $29.4bn from international tourists this year by Zubina Ahmed December 5, 2022 According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCC), Dubai earned $29.4bn from international tourists this year, making it the top city for international tourist spending. WTTC’s latest Cities Economic Impact Report (EIR) was launched at the 22nd Global Summit in Riyadh last week. As per the report, Dubai surpassed Doha and London in spending, where tourists spent $16.8bn and $16.1bn respectively. The Cities EIR analysed 82 international city destinations. According to the study, major cities were popular travel destinations before the pandemic, receiving nearly half of all international visits, both as standalone destinations and as gateway cities. The council said international traveller spending and direct travel and tourism contributions to the city’s GDP are expected to increase by 21 percent in Doha from 2019 to 2022. Travel and tourism’s contribution to Warsaw’s GDP is expected to increase by 14 percent in 2022 compared to 2019. In the US, Orlando is expected to see a 10 per cent increase in direct Travel & Tourism contributions over the next five years. Julia Simpson, WTTC president and CEO stated, “Our Report clearly shows that for millions of tourists worldwide, major cities remain iconic global destinations. There’s still a strong appetite to experience the history, culture, and energy that cities offer travellers. Before the pandemic, cities were powerhouses for international tourists, serving as standalone destinations and as gateways to other tourist destinations within countries. This year cities are recovering worldwide, and we forecast that cities will continue to grow and thrive over the next decade.” The report estimates that ten of the 82 cities analysed will exceed pre-pandemic levels in direct tourism GDP contribution this year.
