Dubai Police announced on Wednesday, April 24 that it will drop all traffic fines incurred by motorists during the record rainfall last week.
The April 16 rains brought the city to a standstill as roadways and streets were flooded. Initial estimates suggest thousands of cars were damaged in the floods.
The initiative was announced by Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, as per Dubai Media Office.
The notification added the decision to waive the traffic violations reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to residents in the city and to ensuring their safety, especially during exceptional circumstances.
Sharjah to waive traffic fines
This announcement follows the precedent set by Sharjah Police which announced a similar initiative earlier this week. Sharjah Police, issued an order on April 22, to waive all traffic violations committed by drivers during the period of “low surface pressure”.
