Dubai Metro turns 15; here's what commuters can enjoy

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is gearing up to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Dubai Metro with an exciting array of promotional and entertainment activities for metro users.

Under the theme 15 Years on Track, the anniversary celebrations will feature a blend of surprises, special editions and interactive events throughout September.

The Dubai Metro, a cornerstone of the city’s public transportation network, will mark this milestone with a series of initiatives supported by a diverse group of sponsors and partners.

Keolis-MHI, the operator of the Dubai Metro and Tram, is the strategic partner for the anniversary.

Campaign partners include LEGO Middle East, LEGOLAND Dubai, IGLOO, Al Jaber Gallery, and Emirates Post, each contributing to a festive programme that spans several activities.

One highlight is the issuance of limited-edition post stamps by Emirates Post, celebrating the metro’s 15-year journey. These stamps will be a coveted addition for collectors.

The RTA is also launching a special edition nol card, featuring a unique design created in collaboration with LEGO Middle East, adding a collectible touch to the event.

Al Jaber Gallery will showcase a range of metro-themed souvenirs, offering fans a chance to take home a piece of the metro’s history.

For families, LEGOLAND Dubai is hosting a special event on September 21st for “Metro Babies” — children born on September 9, 2009, and onwards.

Parents can register their children through the RTA’s website for a chance to participate in this celebratory gathering.

In a sweet twist, IGLOO is releasing limited-edition ice creams shaped like the Dubai Metro.

Among the 5,000 ice creams sold, special codes on the sticks will offer a chance to win one of 5,000 nol Terhaal discount cards.

Capping off the festivities, the Dubai Metro Music Festival will run from September 21 to 27, featuring live musical performances at various Metro stations.

This annual event, organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Dubai Government’s Media Office, will showcase Emirati and international artists, adding a vibrant soundtrack to the Metro’s anniversary celebrations.

In other news, RTA published a revised edition of the Dubai Out-Of-Home (OOH) Advertising Manual on Thursday to streamline government systems and procedures and ensure alignment with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 objectives.

The updated OOH advertising manual, which was issued in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, details the types of images, measurements, lighting, dimensions, locations, and more for outdoor advertising.
