All stations on the Dubai Metro are now fully operational again following the heaviest storms seen in the UAE in 75 years.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made this announcement on Saturday on social network X.

“In line with our continuous efforts to ensure seamless journeys, the RTA has successfully resumed Dubai Metro’s full operations,” said the RTA on X.

“We thank you for your understanding and co-operation, and we remain committed to providing you with comfortable and safe journeys to your destinations,” the authority added.

Amid the disruptions caused by storms on April 16, at least four metro stations — Onpassive, Equiti, Mashreq and Energy — were closed for repairs during the weeks that followed. Each of these stations were then progressively opened following safety checks.

Heaviest rainfall in UAE’s recorded history

Storms that lashed the UAE on April 16 brought with them the highest ever levels of rain recorded over a 24 hour period in the country since the beginning of its climate data records in 1949.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), at the time, announced that parts of the UAE saw rainfall of over 250 mm over a 24 hour period.

Large storms, buoyed by a low pressure cell, swept into the UAE on April 16, sparking off widespread flooding on roads in cities such as Dubai and Sharjah. Thousands of cars were also damaged during the storm amid several motorists getting stuck in water logged areas.
