Dubai hosts Alpine skiing championship

The UAE Winter Sports Federation is organising the event being held this week at Ski Dubai

The UAE Winter Sports Federation is organising a series of Alpine skiing championships in two categories – Slalom and Freestyle Skiing – in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council, the UAE Olympic Committee, and Ski Dubai.

These championships include the National Ski Championships, the Asian Paralympic Championships, and the East Timor Ski Championships.

Among the prominent backers of the event is the Swiss Tourism Council, which will contribute to supporting the national team by providing the opportunity for training and sports rehabilitation for some of the participants after the championship in snow resorts in cooperation with major Swiss ski schools in Interlaken and Davos. “We are pleased with our partnerships to support the UAE’s promising champions by sponsoring the National Ski Championships. We also look forward to supporting this sporting procession until the champions are crowned at the International Winter Olympics,” said Matthias Albrecht, GCC director for Switzerland Tourism.

Hamel Ahmed Al Qubaisi, vice president of the UAE Winter Sports Federation added that the championship includes participants belonging to over 20 nationalities. “The UAE Winter Sports Federation works closely with our partners to embrace talent and provide competition opportunities for champions,” said Al Qubaisi.

Asian Paralympic Championships
People of determination will compete in the snowboarding sport on November 19-20 in the Asian Paralympic Championship. It will be hosted by the Ski Dubai and organsed by the Emirates Winter Sports Federation and the UAE Paralympic Committee. Theyab Jassim Al Muhairi will represent the UAE.

National Ski Championships
UAE clubs are participating in the National Ski Championship will also take place on November 19-20, organised by the Emirates Winter Sports Federation. The Emirati participants include Hamda Al Suwaidi, Abdullah Al Bulushi, and Hassan Al Fardan.

East Timor Ski Championships
Timor-Leste reportedly chose the UAE as the most suitable place for its skiing competitions which will be held across the freestyle and slalom categories because the Dubai snow slope in Ski Dubai is the only indoor slope approved by the International Ski Federation. The championship competitions, which are organised by the Timor Leste Ski Federation and in collaboration with the Emirates Winter Sports Federation and Ski Dubai, have already begun and will continue until November 20.
