Dubai Fitness Challenge activities continue across five themed villages

The month-long event aims to get residents and citizens to commit to half an hour of physical activity each day

The Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) launched on October 28 will continue into this month with activities across five fitness areas

The annual event was, launched by Crown Prince Sheikh Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum last year with the aim of promoting an active lifestyle to citizens and residents.

In 2018 it aims to engage one million participants across the emirate in 30 minutes of consecutive activity for 30 days.

Free activities are available at Dubai International Financial Centre, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Kite Beach, the Palm Jumeirah and Al Khawaneej until November 22.

The DIFC Fitness Village, in association with Dubai International Financial Centre, and powered by Technogym, offers 300 free fitness classes on the main stage ranging from pilates, to pure move, boxercise and cardio. Other activities including a golf simulator and panel tennis are also available, with the village opening from 7:00am to 9:00pm on weekdays, 3:00pm to 9:00pm on Fridays and 2:00pm to 9:00pm on Saturdays.

The DMCC Park Fitness Village, presented by Decathlon in association with DMCC, offers 400 free fitness classes on the main stage including body combat, body attack, zumba, speedflex, bootflex and yoga. Specially created pitches and tournaments are also available for basketball, football, netball and volleyball along with ninja warrior assault courses.
The park is open 7:00am to 10:00pm on weekdays, 2:00pm to 10:00pm on Fridays and 12:00pm to 9:00pm on Saturdays.

The Kite Beach Fitness Village. presented by du in association with Dubai Municipality and Meraas, also features 400 free fitness classes including yoga and aqua activities. There are tournaments for beach volleyball, cricket and football and watersports including kayaking and paddle boarding, as well as a 2km obstacle course. The village opens daily from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

The Palm Jumeirah Fitness Village, presented by DEWA in association with Nakheel, features running clubs and 300 free fitness classes including LeFit for pregnant women, hip hop cardio, Reebok Fusion and a boot camp. A virtual fitness trail and 3.2km glow run beginning at 6:00pm every day are among the other attractions. The park opens from 7:00am to 10:00pm from Sunday to Wednesday, 7:00am to 11:00pm on Thursdays, 2:00pm to 11:30pm on Fridays and 2:00pm to 10:00pm on Saturdays.

Finally, the Al Khawaneej Walk Fitness Village, presented by ENOC in association with Dubai Municipality, has cycle clubs and free bike rentals, along with training sessions and glow rides. BMX and skateboarding trails are available as well as a boxing ring and children’s playground. The village welcomes visitors from 4:00pm to 10:00pm weekdays, 3:00pm to 11:00pm on Fridays and 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Saturdays.

All five areas include Mediclinic health advice areas for free testing of BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose levels, while a custom workout video is also available for kids.

Last year the Dubai Fitness Challenge attracted 786,000 participants.
