The 72-hour promotion was also extended to its home delivery customers, which further boosted sales, the airport retailer said in a statement. Over the three days, a total of 165,924 sales transactions were recorded in-store. Meanwhile, online sales topped Dhs8.761m ($2.400m) with a total of 7,134 combined orders. Perfumes were the highest selling category with sales of Dhs23.007m ($6.303m) during the three days, followed by liquor with sales of Dhs10.900m ($2.986m) and watches with sales of Dhs9.950m ($2.726m). Ticket sales for raffle draws Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise combined reached Dhs8.665m ($2.374m), making it the fourth most popular category for the first time, while cosmetics took the fifth spot with sales of Dhs5.676m ($1.555m). Overall, Dubai Duty Free recorded a 24.51 per cent higher growth compared to the same period last year. Colm McLoughlin, executive vice-chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free said: “We are very happy to see such a great result during our annual anniversary sale, both in-store and online.” The Dubai Duty Free launched its first-anniversary sale in 2003 and has held the promotion every year since then.
