Dubai’s DMCC is home to a new Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory.

The new facility will offer efficient and science-based diamond grading services by the GIA, a globally recognised name in the diamond industry.

“Opening a laboratory in the important global diamond centre of Dubai is a significant step in expanding our services to advance our important consumer protection mission and meet the needs of the industry,” said Tom Moses, GIA executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer.

The state-of-the-art lab is in a custom-designed space on two floors at Uptown Tower.

“The establishment of the laboratory at Uptown Tower adds significant value not only for our free zone members but also for the wider industry, particularly when it comes to speeding up cycle times,” said Ahmed bin Sulayem, DMCC executive chairman and CEO.

This development will support Dubai’s growing polished diamond segment, which now accounts for 40 per cent of the emirate’s diamond trade value.

It will also enhance Dubai’s role within the global diamond supply chain, offering faster turnaround times and streamlined processes.

Initially, the laboratory will serve clients operating in Dubai’s free zones, with plans to expand to other countries soon.

Services offered include grading D-to-Z diamonds weighing up to 3.99 carats.

Appointments to get diamonds graded can be made through GIA.edu/Dubai-DMCC.
