Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a Dhs6.3m ($1.7m) consultancy project for the design and construction of two reservoirs.

The first reservoir in Al Nakhli will have a storage capacity of 120 million gallons of desalinated water. The second in Al Lusaily will have a capacity for 60 million gallons.

Together they will increase Dubai’s water storage capacity from 830 million gallons to 1,010 million gallons.

DEWA managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the project was designed to meet current and future needs and would increase the reliability and efficiency of the water network, improve water flow and grow the emirate’s water reserves.

The consultancy project will include the designing of the two reservoirs to the latest sustainability standards and supervising their implementation.

The timetable for construction and operation is 32 months.
