Dubai announces programme to certify delivery riders

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a programme for certifying motorcyclists of delivery companies in the emirate.

The step aims to improve the performance of delivery motorbike riders and the services offered to customers in Dubai. It will also boost daily delivery operations in the emirate.

Delivery companies are to ensure that all associated motorcyclists fulfil the requirements of obtaining a driver’s qualification certificate available through electronic platforms and applications.

Companies operating in the sector must register their riders at one of the nine institutes accredited by RTA. These include Al Ahli Driving Centre, Belhasa Driving Centre, Bin Yaber Driving Institute, Dubai Driving Centre, Emirates Driving Institute, Emirates Transport Driving Institute, Excellence Driving and Galadari Driving Centre. The registration will help avoid violations of the applicable laws and regulations.

RTA said that it seeks to raise the efficiency of the delivery business and the safety of delivery riders, for which a practical and theoretical training programme has been developed, which highlights the basics of defensive driving, safety requirements and maintenance of bikes among others.

Certificates will be issued to bikers after ensuring that they meet the professional requirements, and can mitigate the associated risks besides raising traffic safety.
