Dubai Airport Passenger Traffic Rises 5.3% In Feb

Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport, which overtook London’s Heathrow last year as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger business, rose 5.3 per cent in February, the airport’s operator said on Monday.

Passenger numbers climbed to 5.97 million in February from 5.68 million a year earlier, Dubai Airports said in a statement. Indian subcontinent routes saw the fastest expansion of traffic, followed by Western Europe.

A contraction in passenger traffic on Russian and the Commonwealth of Independent States routes however, continued, down 35.6 per cent, due to political and economic instability in the region, the operator said.

Freight volume gained 1.2 per cent from a year earlier to 191,002 tonnes.
