UAE-based contractor Drake & Scull International (DSI) announced that its fully-owned German subsidiary Passavant-Roediger, has won two contracts in India.

The water and wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) deals have a combined value of Dhs50 million, DSI said in a statement.

Under the terms of the first contract, Passavant-Roediger will undertake the work for Ford India’s new vehicle and engine assembly plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The company will be responsible for design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of all mechanical and electrical works for an effluent treatment plant which has a design capacity of handling eight million litres of river water per day and a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4500 cubic meters per day.

The plants will make the river water fit for drinking, firefighting purposes and for automobile manufacturing, DSI said.

The waste sludge from the water treatment plant and sanitary and process wastewater from the manufacturing plants will be pumped to the wastewater treatment plant.

The treatment plant will recycle the wastewater back into automotive production and irrigation for agriculture, and will feature a Zero Liquid Discharge Processing Unit.

Under the second contract, awarded by the government of Indian city Rajasthan, Passavant-Roediger will undertake the testing and commissioning of 80 kilometers of sewer system and all ancillary works, including construction of manholes sewage pump houses and rising main and property connections in the town of Nathdwara.

The scope of work also includes the 10-year operation and maintenance of all civil, mechanical, electrical and automation works for the sewer system and the sewage pumping station.

Mazen Bachir, managing director of Passavant-Roediger, said: “We see tremendous potential and opportunities in the market and we will continue to pursue our strategy to establish a greater presence in the growing Indian market and utilise DSI’s existing resources, personnel and network of offices to secure projects across India.”

DSI is growing operations in India and is currently working on the New Cuffe Parade development and the Lodha World Crest Tower in Mumbai, and a Coal Conveyor project in Odisha.
