Dubai-based contractor Drake & Scull announced that its fully-owned German subsidiary Passavant Energy & Environment has won two contracts that has a combined value of Dhs103 million in India.

As per the deal, the company will construct and operate two wastewater treatment plants for the Amritsar Sewerage project in the northern state of Punjab.

The projects have a combined value of Dhs103 million, Drake & Scull said.

Passavant Energy & Environment will undertake design and construction, including installing, testing, commissioning and five-year operation of two sewage treatment plants.

Each of the plants have a capacity of 95 million liters per day and will work based on the Activated Sludge Treatment Process in North and South Zones of Amritsar, Punjab.

“The water and wastewater treatment sector is currently witnessing a significant growth in India with the rise in demand for highly advanced wastewater treatment and waste to energy technologies,” said Mazen Bachir, managing director, Passavant Energy and Environment.

“There is a tremendous potential for leading companies like Passavant Energy and Environment in the Indian market. As pioneers of Waste to Energy plants in the Middle East, achieving Zero Liquid Discharge at our Waste Treatment Plant in Lebanon, we believe that we will be able to cater to the specific requirements of the region.

“Passavant along with DSI will leverage its engineering capabilities as well as a strong presence in the region to jointly explore the lucrative opportunities in India,” he said.

The German unit is already working on two projects that are worth Dhs50 million in India. The company is building a membrane bio reactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4.5 million liters per day for Ford India in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

It has also undertaken work for the construction of a complete sewerage system of 80 kilometers in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.

Drake & Scull is steadily growing its operations in India with a number of key project awards this year.

The company recently secured a Dhs304 million contract to build a new power transmission line in Uttarakhand.

It is also currently working on projects such as New Cuffe Parade and the Lodha World Crest Tower in Mumbai.
