Drake & Scull Wins Dhs172m Contract For District Cooling Plant In Abu Dhabi

Dubai-based contractor Drake & Scull Engineering has announced that it has won a contract to build a district cooling plant for a housing complex in Abu Dhabi.

The residential complex has 1,357 units ranging from one-bedroom to four-bedroom apartments along with double-storey executive villas.

As per the deal, Drake & Scull will design and build a district cooling plant with five chillers of 2,500 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) capacity.

Work on the plant has already begun and it is scheduled to be delivered in Q4 2015, the company said in a statement.

Upon completion, the district cooling plant will have a net production capacity of 12, 500 TR, the statement added.

Drake & Scull will also carry out all related civil, mechanical and electrical work for the project.

We are delighted to note that the technology is being increasingly adopted in most of the region’s mega-projects, including the Information Technology Communications Complex in Saudi Arabia and Doha Land in Qatar and most recently the Lusail City in Qatar,“ said Ahmed.

The company is currently working on several projects in the UAE’s capital including the Abu Dhabi Airport South Airfield Redevelopment, the Louvre Museum and the Fairmont Hotel and Serviced Apartments.

The company also recently won an engineering contract worth Dhs110 to build the Plaza View development, a mixed-used project in Abu Dhabi.
