Dubai-based contractor Drake & Scull International announced that its engineering subsidiary has won a contract worth Dhs 218m for a project in Kuwait.

The mechanical, electrical and plumbing contract is for an upcoming educational institution, a statement said. The name of the institution was not revealed.

Under the contract, the company will undertake construction, operation and maintenance of electrical works including power, light, audio-visual system, fire alarm system and all low voltage works.

DSE will also carry out the supply, installing, testing and commissioning and maintenance of all electrical works.

The educational institution is scheduled to be completed in 2018.

Managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering Ahmad Al Naser said: “Kuwait remains one of DSE’s most strategically important markets in the Middle East.

“The country’s non-oil economic sectors, including real estate, have benefited from the government’s ambitious investments, continuing to grow in the medium term.

“With a growth in non-oil segments and expansion of the consumer sector, the Kuwait real estate sector is currently enjoying a growth upswing and DSE is confident of capitalising on this forward momentum by securing more large-scale projects in Kuwait in the near term.”

DSI has been operating in Kuwait since 2004 and has been associated with several developments including educational projects in Shuwaikh and Ardiya, the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry headquarters, the State Audit Bureau of Kuwait, the immigration complex and Nasser Tower.

The company’s ongoing projects include the College of Business, College of Arts, the College of Health and Sciences for Girls, Sheikh Saad Sports Complex, Sheikh Jaber Cultural Center, Government Center for Testing and Research, Souk Al Kuwait, Souk Al Kabeer, Al Sager Cardiac Clinic and a private residence.

DSI has been very active this year and has won project deals worth Dhs 1.57bn so far in 2015. Last month the company was awarded contracts worth Dhs 350m in Oman, and in March, a DSI-led joint venture won the main contract for the $1.1bn Jewel of the Creek project in Dubai.
