Home Industry Infrastructure DP World, Mawani break ground on $250m Jeddah Logistics Park The groundbreaking follows on the heels of DP World opening freight forwarding offices in Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh by Neesha Salian May 27, 2024 Image: Dubai Media Office DP World and Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have begun the construction of a SAR900m ($250m) logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port. Spanning 415,000 square metres, the Jeddah Logistics Park will be the largest integrated logistics hub in the kingdom. It will feature 185,000 square metres of warehousing space and a multi-purpose storage yard. With a capacity exceeding 390,000 pallet positions, the facility is poised to streamline the flow of goods in and out of Jeddah, boosting the port’s prominence as a pivotal trade gateway. Scheduled for completion in two phases, with an anticipated opening in Q2 2025, the Jeddah Logistics Park will feature a rooftop solar plant generating 20MW of renewable energy. Mawani and DP World collaboration This ambitious endeavour builds upon the partnership between Mawani and DP World, marked by the management of the South Container Terminal. Under separate 30-year concessions, DP World is spearheading a comprehensive modernisation project at the terminal, set to conclude in Q4 2024. This transformation will ramp up handling capacity to five million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), fortifying Jeddah’s status as a maritime powerhouse. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasised the significance of this investment, affirming DP World’s enduring dedication to Saudi Arabia and its pivotal role in facilitating global trade. “Jeddah Logistics Park, strategically located on the vital Asia-Europe shipping route, will provide world-class multimodal connectivity and market access for our customers while supporting the ambitious aims of Saudi Vision 2030. This investment marks a significant step as we mark 25 years of operations in Jeddah and underscores our enduring commitment to facilitating the flow of trade,” he said. President of Mawani, Omar Bin Talal Hariri, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the project’s alignment with Saudi Vision 2030. “The project is part of Mawani’s broader efforts to expand the number of logistics centres in Saudi ports, in partnership with major national and international companies, and in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030,” he said. By integrating port operations with last-mile activities and value-added services, the park will support both importers and exporters alike. The groundbreaking follows on the heels of DP World opening freight forwarding offices in Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh, expanding the logistics footprint of DP World and strengthening end-to-end supply chains in the kingdom and beyond.
