Home GCC DEWA to provide free charging to non-commercial electric vehicles in Dubai under new initiative As of February 2021, the number of electric cars in Dubai has increased to 2,473 by Iman Hussain May 17, 2021 The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched an EV Green Charger initiative, which provides a network of electric vehicle chargers across Dubai as part of the Dubai Green Mobile Strategy 2030. By way of this strategy, the number of electric cars in Dubai increased to 2,473, and hybrid vehicle numbers rose to 6,016 as of February 2021. DEWA has installed almost 300 charging stations across Dubai, including some in Hatta. EV customers registered under the EV Green Charger initiative can charge their vehicles by scanning a QR code at DEWA’s charging station. Customer cans also use the EV Green Charging card. Commercial registered customers such as organization, governmental, and semi-governmental organisations will have to pay 29 fils for every kilowatt-hour. The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) provides various incentives, including free parking, reduced vehicle registration fees, and exemption from the Salik tag fee. To locate charging stations, customers can use DEWA’s website or smart app and various other digital map platforms, including Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare and others. Researchers at DEWA’s innovation centre have registered a new patent for a universal smart charging system that consists of a single cable and a plug, whether they use AC or DC charging. The charging station’s design is also user-friendly and a one-stop point for all types of electric vehicles, as it automatically adapts the plug and the charging to the vehicle’s requirement.
