Home UAE Dubai DEWA opened 20 electricity substations in Dubai this year at a cost of Dhs2.6bn DEWA’s total investments in power transmission has reached Dhs11.2bn by Varun Godinho November 8, 2020 The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated 20 new electricity substations this year, at a total cost of Dhs2.6bn. These stations include a 400kV substation in Dubai South with a conversion capacity of 2020 megavolt-amperes (MVA), and 19 other 132kV substations in several areas across Dubai with a conversion capacity of 2,700MVA. “These new substations are part of DEWA’s efforts to increase the capacity, efficiency, and readiness of the power transmission network in the emirate and meet the future needs of customers, developers, and the business sector,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA. DEWA’s total investments in power transmission has reached Dhs11.2bn. This includes Dhs2.4bn for 400kV transmission projects and Dhs8.8 billion for 132kV transmission projects. The number of 400kV substations in Dubai stands at 23, with four new substations under construction. The total number of 132 kV substations is 302 substations, with 42 substations under construction. DEWA has inaugurated 20 new electricity substations in 2020. DEWA achieved 100 per cent in all of the Getting Electricity indicators, including procedures, time, cost, and reliability of supply and transparency of the tariff. Commercial and industrial customers can get electricity connection up to 150kW within five days and in one step through Al Namoos, with security deposits and new connection charges waived, reported Dubai Media Office.
