Covid-19: UAE reports 241 new cases, Kuwait announces first death

The number of Covid-19 cases in the UAE tallies 1,505 while as many as 2,179 individuals have been afflicted by the contagion in Saudi Arabia

The Covid-19 pandemic that has sent world economies reeling, grinding industries to a halt, has afflicted over 6,000 people across GCC states, claiming close to 50 lives.

UAE
On April 4, the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE announced the detection of 241 new coronavirus cases among various nationalities, taking to 1,505 the total number of infections in the country.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the UAE health sector also confirmed the death of a 53-year-old Arab patient, who succumbed to Covid-19 related health complications, raising the number of fatalities across the country to 10.

The total number of recoveries in the country now tallies 125, including additional 17 patients who, after receiving the necessary medical care, have overcome the disease.

‏The increase in new cases was attributed to intensive proactive testing conducted by health authorities among infected individuals and their contacts.

‏”Proactive surveillance and testing, along with the expansion in the isolation of contact cases, are critical in this stage, and therefore we expect to diagnose more cases,” she added.

‏The spokesperson urged the public to maintain a safe physical distance and adhere to preventative measures, warning them of the possibility of being infected and later passing the virus to others when exiting their homes.

Kuwait
On April 4, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced the country’s first Covid-19 fatality, confirmed as a 46-year-old Indian expatriate.

An additional 62 cases were reported, spiking the country’s count of confirmed infections to 479, Kuwait News Agency reported.

The total recoveries in Kuwait have now reached 93.

Of the 385 active Covid-19 patients, 17 are being treated in intensive care units, of whom 11 are in stable condition while six remain critical.

Saudi Arabia
On April 4, Saudi Arabia announced four additional Covid-19 fatalities as well as the diagnosis of 140 new cases.

Of the newly diagnosed cases, two were travel-related while 138 individuals were linked to interaction with previously infected individuals.

As many as 29 people have till now succumbed to the disease.

The total confirmed cases in the kingdom now tallies 2,179 including 420 who have now recovered.

Oman
Oman announced the death of a 72-year-old citizen from the coronavirus infection on Saturday, Times of Oman reported.

There are 277 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the sultanate. A total of 61 patients have recovered.

Qatar
Since the outbreak of the contagion, the Ministry of Public Health has confirmed three Covid-19 fatalities in the country.

The Covid-19 virus has afflicted 1,325 people of whom 109 have now recovered.
