The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre on Tuesday outlined the criteria under which eligible individuals can receive booster shots of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Sinopharm vaccine.
Those who have received either two or three doses of the Sinopharm jab, can receive a booster dose of either Sinopharm or Pfizer provided six months have passed since they received their last dose.
Those who have had two or three shots of the Pfizer vaccine meanwhile can receive a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine provided that they have completed six months since their last jab.
Meanwhile, those who have received two doses of Sinopharm and booster dose of Pfizer, can also receive another Pfizer booster dose provided that six months have lapsed since they received their last Covid-19 shot.
Health authorities in Abu Dhabi added that an exemption can be made for high-risk individuals whereby they can receive a booster dose three months after they received their last jab.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said that it had begun administering Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to children aged 5 to 11 years. The vaccine is administered as two doses, with the second dose given 21 days after the first jab. The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the largest healthcare network in the country, also launched a specialised children’s Covid-19 vaccination centre in the emirate earlier this year. The Ettihad Heroes Healthcare Centre in Abu Dhabi, located at the Al Ettihad Centre, specialises in providing Covid-19 vaccinations for children aged 3 to 16 years.
