A circular issued by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) states that activities which lead to gathering of a large group of people must be postponed.

An email seen by What’s On says that venues should “postpone any activity that leads to large gatherings such as weekend brunches.”

The same circular added that restaurants must reduce their capacity, as should malls and hotels.

The new measures, issued by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, are effective from February 2, 2021, until the end of the month.

Hotel establishments will be required to operate at 70 per cent of total capacity; new bookings should comply with the new capacity limit.

Shopping malls will operate at a reduced capacity of 70 per cent.

Restaurants and cafes will be required to close by 1am. They will also not be allowed to organise any entertainment activities in their premises. Also, all bars and pubs must be temporarily closed effective immediately.

Global Village

The management at Dubai’s Global Village took to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm that all shows and street entertainment will remain suspended at the entertainment park starting from February 3 until further notice.

It said that the decision was “in alignment with recent government authority announcements” and comes shortly after Dubai issued a new set of precautionary measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

However, it added that the Mission Speed stunt show will continue to operate with socially distanced seating.

It reiterated that the rest of the park was still operating with all the safety measures in place.

The current season at Global Village is expected to conclude on April 18, 2021.

A recent vaccination drive was initiated for all Global Village staff and their families.
