Device maker Nothing has unveiled its latest audio products, which include ‘industry-first’ ChatGPT enabled wireless earbuds.

On Thursday, the London-headquartered company unveiled two new wireless earbuds, Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a).

By integrating ChatGPT with Nothing earbuds, including the new Nothing Ear and Ear (a), and with Nothing OS, we’ve taken our first steps towards change, and there’s more to come,” said Carl Pei, CEO and Co-Founder of Nothing.

As always, we look forward to feedback from our community,” he said.

Founded in 2020, Nothing has since sold over 3 million products worldwide, including its Phone (1), which was listed on Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2022 for Innovative Smartphone Design.

In 2023, Nothing released two more second-generation products: the audio companion Ear (2) and the Phone (2). In March 2024, Nothing welcomed its third smartphone, Phone (2a).

ChatGPT Integration, other features

Users with the latest Nothing OS and ChatGPT installed on their Nothing phones will be able to “pinch-to-speak to the most popular consumer AI tool in the world directly from Nothing earbuds, including the newly launched Ear and Ear (a),” said the company.

“Nothing will also improve the Nothing smartphone user experience in Nothing OS by embedding system-level entry points to ChatGPT, including screenshot sharing and Nothing-styled widgets.

Ear

Other features of Nothing Ear include its “most advanced driver system to date with a custom 11 mm dynamic driver featuring premium materials carefully selected to deliver the most authentic and clear sound, including a ceramic diaphragm for overall richness and crisper highs.”

The company says that it has also improved the dual chamber design from that of its Ear (2) range with “two additional vents to improve airflow, delivering clearer sound as a result.”

Ear further supports the LHDC 5.0 and LDAC codec for high-resolution streaming over Bluetooth, which is said to result in “powerfully pure audio.”

“Ear can reach up to 1 Mbps 24 bit/192 kHz with LHDC 5.0 (Low Latency High-Definition Audio Codec) and up to 990 kbps and frequencies up to 24 bit/96 kHz with LDAC,” says the company.

Nothing’s Advanced Equaliser feature also provides “more customisation through a simple graphical interface on the Nothing X app.”

Other features of Ear include “intelligent noise-cancelling” and a Smart ANC algorithm that “checks for noise leakage between the earbuds and the ear canal and adds more noise cancellation accordingly.”

A larger battery on Ear further results in battery life that lasts 25 per cent longer than Ear (2), lasting up to 40.5 hours after a full charge with the charging case or 8.5 hours of non-stop playback, says the company.

A “Clear Voice Technology” yet with a new talk mic design for call as well as the ability to mitigate against wind noise is another feature.

Ear (a)

Meanwhile, Ear (a) is more targeted at music lovers. It features Nothing’s transparent design, but also comes in a bubble design and yellow colour.

Ear (a) yellow, for example, is Nothing’s first product in a colour outside of black and white.

At 45 dB, Ear (a) further offers noise cancellation that is almost two times that of Ear (2), says Nothing. Meanwhile, it can stream high-resolution audio over Bluetooth connections at up to 990 kbps at 24 bit/96 kHz and is compatible with the widely supported LDAC codec for high-resolution BlueTooth streaming.

With a 500 mAh battery in the charging case and 46 mAh battery in each bud, the product also allows users to get up to 42.5 hours of music playback after a full charge with the charging case.
