Temporary ban on heavy vehicles entering Abu Dhabi amid Indian PM Modi’s visit

These measures are part of the authorities’ preparations to manage traffic congestion and ensure public safety during the designated period

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrol Directorate announced a temporary ban on the entry of certain heavy vehicles and buses transporting workers to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

Abu Dhabi restricts heavy vehicle movement

The ban, which includes entrances and key bridges such as the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Amsefah Bridge, and Al-Muktaar Bridge, aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and security in the capital city.

General Mahmoud Youssef Al-Balouchi, Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols of the Central Operations Sector, clarified that the prohibition period will be in effect from 12:00 noon to 11:59 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

However, vehicles of public hygiene companies and logistic support vehicles are exempted from the prohibition order.

Enhanced traffic control

To enforce the entry restrictions effectively, traffic patrols will be deployed on all roads, and traffic control will be intensified through smart systems.

These measures are part of the authorities’ preparations to manage traffic congestion and ensure public safety during the designated period.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in UAE

The announcement of the temporary entry ban coincides with preparations for the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the UAE. Modi is scheduled to attend the World Governments Summit in Dubai, address more than 60,000 members of the Indian expatriate community during the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Prime Minister Modi’s two-day visit to the UAE, starting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, will include meetings with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Additionally, Modi will inaugurate the Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi, underscoring the deepening cultural and diplomatic ties between India and the UAE.
