Bahrain has arrested “terrorists” who were plotting an attack in the country, the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science announced on Monday.

“Terrorist elements who had launched plans and preparations for terrorist operations targeting security and civil peace have been arrested,” the official Bahrain News Agency (BNA) quoted the directorate as saying.

Weapons and explosives from Iran were seized from the accused who are “associated with terrorist groups in Iran”, it said.

The arrests were within the security efforts to maintain the security of the homeland and in a proactive security operation in cooperation with the National Intelligence Agency, the report added.

No further details were disclosed.

Last year, Bahrain said it had foiled a “terrorist attack” that was backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
