A new Pixel, a renamed smart speaker and a reconfigured Chromecast round up the roster

Google held a pretty low-key virtual launch event for its hardware line-up on Wednesday, introducing a new Pixel smartphone range, Nest Audio and Google TV and Chromecast.

Google Pixel

The target for Google’s Pixel is clearly the cost-conscious smartphone buyer, with a price tag of $699 for the flagship Pixel 5. The Pixel 4a 5G will set you back $499, one of the lowest price points we have seen for a 5G device.

The 6-inch Pixel 5 is made out of 100 per cent recycled aluminium and offers reverse charging-meaning you can use the phone to charge other devices.

The cameras for both models have been updated, and now include an ultrawide lens for the main camera setup.

Google Nest Audio

Nest Audio
The successor to Google Home smart speaker, the Nest Audio smart speaker is priced at $100 and is apparently designed with 70 per cent sustainable materials. Its architecture includes a 19mm tweeter for high-frequency coverage and clear sound and a larger midwoofer for better bass.

Chromecast with Google TV

Google TV

Google is changing the name of the Google Play Movies & TV app to Google TV. Included in the new service is live TV via YouTube TV.

Chromecast with Google TV is a new dongle you can use to stream video either directly or via cast like the original Chromecast.
