ADNOC and e& set up energy sector's largest 5g private wireless network

ADNOC and e& have joined forces on a strategic project to build the energy industry’s largest private 5G wireless network, covering 11,000 square kilometres.

The 5G network will provide high-bandwidth connectivity across ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations, enabling the integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions at remote facilities.

This initiative aims to reduce costs through automation, enhance efficiency, minimise emissions and improve safety.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2025 and is expected to generate $1.5bn (Dhs5.5bn) in value during its first five years.

ADNOC and e& collaboration to set new industry standards

“This landmark project with e& is a milestone step in ADNOC’s journey to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company,” said Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and ADNOC managing director and group CEO. “Global demand is rising for both energy and AI, so by investing in cutting-edge connectivity across our operations, we can ensure secure, reliable and responsible energy supply.

“This strategic partnership will generate value, enable faster, smarter decisions, and future-proof our business while ensuring the safety of our people and the environment.”

The 5G network will relay information from sensors in over 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms, facilitating real-time recommendations to extend asset lifespan and ensure field safety. It will also enable the digitalisation of wellheads and provide end-to-end operational visibility, driving productivity across ADNOC’s value chain.

Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi, chairman of e&, remarked, “Our collaboration with ADNOC will create a cutting-edge private 5G network, underscoring our dedication to harnessing technology for sustainable and intelligent transformation in the energy sector.

“Connectivity is the backbone of technological advancements, and we’re leveraging our expertise in network and AI innovations to drive breakthroughs in the energy sector and beyond. This partnership sets new industry standards and redefines possibilities.”

The 5G network is part of ADNOC’s multi-year programme to accelerate the deployment of AI solutions across its value chain, reinforcing its strategy to develop and implement pioneering technologies.
