Home Transport Aviation Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen airport receives 4D Accreditation from GCAA The airport is now officially certified to accommodate wide-body aircraft at all times without pre-authorisation by Neesha Salian November 27, 2022 Abu Dhabi Airports has announced that Al Bateen Executive Airport has received its 4D Accreditation from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Receiving this accreditation means Al Bateen can now accommodate wide-body aircraft without operational challenges, limitations, or civil aviation pre-approval. Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, MD and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports said: “Acquiring this certification from General Civil Aviation Authority was central to our long-term development and operational vision for the airport, which can now accommodate larger aircraft from regional and international destinations. This announcement is the latest testament to our enduring commitment to drive advancement and deliver world-class services in line with the highest compliance and accreditation standards in aviation.” For Abu Dhabi Airports, ensuring Al Bateen was awarded 4D Accreditation has been one of its priority achievements, and with the recent completion of major upgrade works the existing 3.2-kilometre runway was successfully resurfaced and widened to accommodate twin-aisle jets such as Boeing’s 767 model. Read: Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Executive Airport reopens following major refurbishment As part of the refurbishment activities, over 105,000 tonnes of asphalt were used on varying areas of the runway, shoulder areas of the runway and taxiways, amounting to approximately 240,000 square metres and a combined 23 kilometres of cable were laid down, in addition to 15.5 kilometres of duct and the installation of over 400 new manholes.
